Homework Help

Homework help is about just that – helping children with their homework. However there is actually a lot more to it than meets the eye!

Volunteers meet up with children in their homes once a week to give them educational support where their parents aren’t equipped to do so. Many of the children we help are behind at school, as English is not spoken at home and their parents are unable to help them with their schoolwork, so this is where we step in.

We also aim to befriend the family and provide a good example to parents, that they may take more responsibility for their children’s education. We also endeavour to help the children better understand their school work, and teach them that learning can be fun!

We believe that at the same time as doing this we can also show these families the love of God as we seek to serve them, serving as ambassadors of Christ in predominantly Muslim households.

The families warmly invite us into their homes, however many of the parent’s speak little or broken English, so communication can sometimes be challenging! Nonetheless it is a great way to experience another culture right here in Bristol – good training if you are thinking of living outside of the UK in the future and especially if church planting in another country is on your heart. It is also a great way of helping those less fortunate than ourselves right here on our doorstep, as Jesus called us to do.
